BIRTHDAY WISHES: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DORA D.!

Mama called me first bright and early; she helped start my special day off on a good foot. Alex posted birthday wishes first via Facebook late last night. Sara went to work and said this weekend would be worth the wait. My rib-eye dinner? A girl can only hope. Ha, ha, ha! All my sisters have called me at home through-out the day. (so did my great-nephew, Bryan). That was awesome. I am truly lucky!
Two of my sisters came over to my house with their daughters and spent time with me on my special day. Thanks Josie and Alex. Thanks Eva, Felicia and Erica. They delivered some very nice b-day presents. They all know me so very well. I love my family; I am a very lucky person.
My most precious present today so far is that Mama is also having a great day. I passed my b-day wish onto her for today and going forward. After her early morning call to me this a.m. Mama called me around dinner-time to tell me the great news; she is eating well and eating heartily (all day long).
Sara brought goodies, too. Yum. Hoping for a nice, quiet b-day dinner and anticipating the actual dinner in a couple of days. Should I fast? Hoping for a rib-eye dinner or chicken marsala (yummy). J.K. anything for dinner is good. Thanks as well to Sara's uncle Rain for the nice card I received on Wednesday and to our dear friend Ana. Ana gave me my most fav sci-fi flick, DUNE (1984).

(Enjoy the pix of presents I received below):

BIRTHDAY WISHES: Dora's b-day...just pix!

I am so NOT a material person (I hope not---really! I tried never to be...), but I am grateful for everything that my family and friends do for me so I posted pix of b-day presents I received today on Facebook and will post them here, too!
Like I wrote on my FB status update a while ago:
"i am fortunate to have a great family and wonderful friends. material things are good, too, but nothing beats time spent with loved ones!"

...the b-day cards (left 2 right): from the Hernandez family (Alex, Josie and Jabier), from the Guzman family (Eva, Felicia, Philip Sr, Erica, and Nick) and from Sara's uncle Rain (& Jeannie).
Thanks, guys. I loved each card and the sentiments expressed in each one. You all brought out the baby-cry in me, but just for the day. lol.

*********
...the Hernandez family gifted me with this nice Tech basket - all my fav goodies - edible and non. Bed and Bath rocks so does the incense! Thanks Josie, Jabier and Alex! Included my 3 fav goodies/vices: carrot cake, D.P. but the fruit cup is the exception cuz it's healthy for me. LOL. Thanks, Alex, for putting Caty on the front of the card...a special touch!
*********
...the Guzman's Texas Tech card had money in it; did someone say "shoppin time"!?! LOL. Thanks, guys, it will definitely come in so handy! Thanks, Felicia, for dressing it up ala Texas Tech style. I was happy that the three Guzman women came over to visit with me for a while. Josie and Alex were still here when they came over so it was extra fun.
*********
‎...our dear friend Ana had Dune (1984) delivered to me on Tuesday via good ole Amazon prior to her vacation last week. It's my most fav sci-fi flick. Though I had it on video, I am so glad to finally have it on DVD. Sara opened it the day it arrived but made sure I kept my promise not to open it until today. Sara is "minga"!
I actually opened it at midnight the start of my b-day (so hee, hee).

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2011: FAV STORIES ABOUT DAD...

Fathers Day Greetings, Messages and Quotes
ALL STORIES WRITTEN BY THE PERSON
WHOSE NAME IS IN THE TITLE OF EACH "FATHER'S DAY" POST!
(in other words the "from" person)
THANKS SO MUCH TO THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED!

(stories posted below...enjoy!)

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2011: From Dora to Papi!

I am not too sure how old I was when this event occurred I just remember that I was a patient at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock; not sure if it was for a rhinoplasty, but it was related to my cleft palate/cleft lip. It was late at night and since they only allowed one person to stay over-night with the patient, it was Mama who was staying with me and Papi was saying his "good-byes" to us before he left; my surgery was to take place early the next morning. I was in bed and Papi kissed me on my forehead, said he loved me (in Spanish), and told me not to worry "mija"! That was a huge deal and one of my fondest memories for various reasons. BTW, I have always had an affinity for strawberry ice cream or strawberry sundaes and til this very day I still do. Not for actual strawberries - just for the frozen dessert. One day Josie told me it was also Papi's favorite and went on to say that each time I was hospitalized for my cleft-related surgeries, Papi would save me his strawberry ice cream. I broke down and cried when I heard that story so I am grateful to Josie for having shared that. It explains my love of the strawberry frozen treat. Anyway ever since she told me that story my love of strawberry ice cream and sundaes has taken on a deeper meaning. I still cannot eat one without tears welling up in my eyes, but it is now due to happy memories. I silently think of Papi and thank him for passing along his love of it to me. I love you, Papi! From Dora!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2011: From Taita to his Dad, Gilbert Sr.!

My dad was more than a dad, he was my best friend, my confidant, my big brother , my everything and my life ! The day he died I died with him. I could never live in Big Spring again because this is the town where he died bodily; I know and feel his presence in San Francisco! Many would argue and say I'm crazy, insane, and just outright disillusioned but its o.k. just remember when my dad died a part of me died too, guess that explains why I feel and sense him nearby!
Love you dad and thanks for never leaving me spiritually! Your son " the professor" Taita

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2011: From Alex to her Dad, Jabier!

My dad has always been a great supporter in my life, and always made sure I had what I needed in life. I remember going to family dances when I was little and standing on my dad's feet while he was holding my hands and moving us to the beat of the song. I also remember when I was little falling asleep in my dad's arms while watching tv. I'm very blessed to have a father like my dad who is very supportive, and always there for me when I need him. I love him with all my heart and he will always be my knight in shining armor.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY 2011: Brianna to her Dad, Taita!

From Brianna! My daddy makes me yummy tuna sandwiches for lunch and choose up fruit for me for school lunches! He also takes me to school every morning and always rushes me to hurry up and eat my breakfast because his boss will get mad if he is late! He also holds my hand when we walk down the street to protect me, and he has shown me about Buddha, Ganesh and Jesus! He also takes me to San Francisco all the time and Starbucks too! He is a fun dad when he is sleeping he wakes me up with his snoring like a bear! He is brown and I'm light brown and I love him alot! He tells me his name is gilby mud and I'm Brianna bug! Love you papa!

BIRTHDAY WISHES: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRACIE G.!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
(my great-niece),
GRACIE G.!!!

Father's Day: Project for Dad invitation for those wanting to be a part of this!

Gentle reminder.
If you want to participate in this project.
Again send me just a favorite picture of you with your dad or just one you like of your dad.
You can include a short story (fav memory) of your dad, with or w/out pix. Or why you think your dad is the bomb.
Whatever you want to write. Or just a pic and no story.
BTW, I sent this for those with little ones who are unable to do this so, Mommies, this is where you can come in and do this on behalf of your kiddos, too.
I wish I had thought of this for Mother's Day; maybe next year.
I am doing one for Papi (in memoriam with my fav memory of him) so I am hoping my siblings also participate.
No pressure but time is closing in tomorrow.
It usually takes me a couple of hours to compile data then to upload it to the blog but I do not mind.
Even if you can't get it to me tonight - I will work on it periodically through tomorrow.

For Philip on what would have been your 31st birthday: Gone but NEVER forgotten!

We remember you today on what would have been
your 31st birthday.
We miss you dearly, but we remain grateful that you were a part of our family/our lives.
DQ gave us (Momo and me) a number 13 at lunch today.
Therefore I felt obliged
to hold onto it.

Your Tia Fua said it was a sign from you that all would be
okay (with Momo and other things).
I liked that idea and so we are going with it.
WE LOVE YOU!

Adopt-a-Highway June 11, 2011: Remembering Philip!

"Adopt-a-Highway"/
"Guzman-Dominguez Family Clean-Up".
Some of us gathered again today for the annual family clean-up we always schedule on or as close to Philip's birthday each year since our involvement with the Texas-based program. Though we did the clean-up today, 06-09-11, his actual birthday is on June 13th. It was for Philip that we implemented our family group so his birthday is probably the biggest event for our group each year. While we are committed to perform several clean ups through-out the year, the birthday one to remember Philip is the most important for obvious reasons.
We had a good turn-out this time. Thanks to everyone who showed up, which includes Eva, Felicia, Philip Sr, Joe, Erica, Nick, Jabier, Josie, Alex, me (Dora D.C.), and Sam. Thanks as well to Sam for being nice enough to take our pix; nice job.
The weather was nice; cool breeze. We headed over to Mikey D's for breakfast. Betty was unable to help clean but did join us for breakfast en route to her job - Mom decided not to go with us. We all ended up at her (Mom's) house after eating and visited with her and Jay for a while.
All-in-all a nice morning was had. I/we remain thankful for family and good times and nice banter/anecdotes/memories.
