New collage from "A Day At Mom's": March 16, 2010

I posted this collage on my blog for Mama's side of the family: http://morenofamilyreunion2010.blogspot.com/
I had already posted several of these pics on this blog, but since I updated my Google Picasa Photo Editor, I have decided to start trying out the different features that the new version offers. It allows me to make collages much more easier and quicker; that is why I wanted to post the collage to my Moreno Blog first. I want to update that web site as much as I can so that our Moreno family member whom is helping with our genealogy data can have other pics for the Moreno Reunion later this year.
Anyway, like I said - Picasa helps me make collages and other photo projects much easier than the old way I usually made them. I will still try my hand at making my own because I guess I am just old-fashioned and hard-headed that way (ha,ha). I just enjoy doing things on my own and not relying on apps and quick uploads to maintain my codes and tags for all my blogs. I upload most pics using my own codes and do not usually upload an actual picture. I made my own copyright code posted at the bottom of each blog page as well. It was fun. I love HTML, Beta, Javascript, etc. I am a wee bit of a nerd, but like I always tell Sara, I am a COOL NERD (hee, hee). My fav book right now is an HTML Codes book.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate the fact that I always enjoy spending time with our family. We are lucky to have one another and I really need to seriously rethink how much time I spend with Mama and all of our family. I just need to stop allowing life to bother me so much. Overall, life is good, but things happen and voila...there can go a really good day. You know what I mean. I just need to keep things in perspective and remember to not focus so much on all of those bigots, haters, and hate groups who hide behind the moniker of a so-called grassroots movement...they know who they are as I am sure all of you do too.

Alex: A Birthday Story (4 Alex, Josie and Jabier)

(click on pic 4 larger image)

HAPPY 16th BIRTHDAY, ALEX!!!

APRIL 18th, 1994:

16 years ago on this very day, Josie and Jabier became the proud parents of a baby girl whom they named Alexandra (Alex). Over 20 years of waiting for their little miracle, Josie and Jabier would rejoice over the newest addition to their little family. What had long been a family of two, was now a joyful and ecstatic, loving family of three. Their extended familys would be equally as happy and with great love and pride, they would also welcome this new bundle of joy - the "miracle baby" - named Alex into their own lives. A true miracle had been bestowed upon us all that was for certain. Those who know our family and the story would surely agree. Going forward many adventures would follow the new family of three; there would be ups and downs as is common in life, but overall, everything would be good.

Time went by and saw the Hernandez family make a move from Midland to Big Spring. Before they knew it, Alex turned one and it was on that day during her birthday party that Alex decided to show off her walking ability. Not long after that, Alex would begin her stint at being vocal and not caring where she was as long as she was heard; soon her words would be all too clear…good for her but maybe not for her folks. One day a most startling but amusing habit struck Alex, she began to put weenies in the VCR. It did not take Josie long before she found the reason behind it and thus a cure for that quirky but cute habit. I am sure Jabier would not refer to it as a cute habit (ha, ha). It did not take long for Alex to settle into her own little person with her own characteristics gradually forming and such. Before long the Hernandez family moved back to Midland and right before Alex started school, they found a most excellent house which they would call home - at least until Alex graduated. The family of three would begin another chapter in their book of life.

Alex started kindergarten…the day was a nerve-wracking one for Josie and Jabier; Sara and I even took time off from work to accompany them as they took Alex to school for the first time ever. Alex had a great day, of curse. The rest of us worried and tried to find things to do to occupy our time until Alex got out of school. I believe we worried more than she did. Going forward, Alex’s affinity for school and for making friends continued. The years would be kind to Alex and her school career would prosper. She would meet different people and make good friends. She would continue to travel like she did before she began her school career. Maybe not as much as she was limited to just the summer time, but she would be older and more mature and her recollections of her travels would not elude her as they did when she was younger. Her grades would be most excellent and she would develop a love for music which would encourage her to follow in her mom’s footsteps and become a choir member; an activity which she still pursues until this very day. BTW, Alex is self taught in playing the guitar.

Years went by as they always do and before they could blink an eye, Alex was a sophomore in high school and is now 16 years young. Josie and Jabier continue to be proud and happy. Indeed more blessed now than over 16 years ago before Alex entered their lives. Lucky is our entire family as well to have Alex be a part of it.

Please join me in wishing Alex D. Hernandez a VERY HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY!!!

(Note from Tia D 2 ALex: this story is one of my presents to you about what you have meant to your family and especially to me. You were indeed a God-send to this person as well during the time in my own life when i felt lost and then came you - you gave me reason to stay near our family here in w. Texas and reason to move forward with great expectations in life. thanks, Mija! Love Tia!)

Don't Mess With Texas 2010: "Texas Trash Off " Pictures

Don't Mess With Texas 2010: "Texas Trash Off " - A Success.

The Trash Off event took place on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
I hope everyone enjoys the pics.
Thanks to Sara for taking them - she takes better pics than I ever do 4 sure!
Those in attendance:
Eva, Wero, Felicia, Erica, Nick, Sara, Rudy, Aurora, Jorge, Ari, Tom and 2 of Wero's buddies (DNK names).
Unfortunately, this year's annual Trash Off saw some of us "usual suspects" unable to attend for various reasons. BTW: Alex's Confirmation is another family event which we are geting ready for next month. That special event takes place on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010
(6 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Midland, Texas).

Data requested from all for Family Tree/Reunion

· Please check the My Heritage icon on the right and click on it but you must register as a member before you can see the data I posted (not viewable to the public). FYI: this is not a gimmicky kinda web site, it won't charge you for your membership or anything like that.

· If you prefer not to register to view the data I currently have listed at My Heritage.Com (I know that much of the data is wrong as I just filled it in as best as I could to just get the ball rolling), then please just email me the data below in steps 1 thru 8 to carey.techalumn03@gmail.com

· Finally, if you prefer, I have a paper questionnaire that you can read and just send me the details if you prefer (no need to fill it out as I just need the answers), but you must let me know soon. I can either email you an attachment or put one in the mail to be sent to Mom's and you just have to retrieve it and make copies -or- I guess I can mail one to your own home (include address in case I do not have it). You all decide and let me know.

1. your full name (I will include your nicknames in parenthesis as you like)

2. your date of birth

3. your birthplace, include county and hospital where possible

4. if married or with a significant other, their same data as i requested from you in steps 1, 2 and 3

5. plus if married, your marriage data (date, place, county)

6. if married or with a significant other, i also need their parents names (include if their parents never married, married, divorced, separated, unknown, alive, deceased)

7. if you have children, the same data in steps 1, 2 and 3

8. I need pics for each family member, would prefer some that clearly shows each person's face. you can email me a favorite one or mail me some and, I will scan them and such. Please know that pics may get posted on our family blog.

Thanks for your cooperation. Love, love, love Dora :-) Remember, the data is just for my eyes only and will only be shared (with Mom's family) if you are okay that I do so for the Moreno reunion and such. Plus, so that I may begin researching our Dominguez genealogy pool as well..I just want to ensure you are all included in our family tree project(s), okay?

EASTER: Another nice day with family!

This year's Easter celebration went well. We had a set-back into the late evening, but thankfully it turned out okay.

Sara and I drove in from Lubbock after spending a day and a half there with family, and we spent Saturday night at Mom's. Easter started off with Mom making several delicious side dishes while Sara and I started prepping things for the BBQ which we decided we would cook. Our bro-in-law, Philip (Wero), also helped us BBQ; he was a huge help and was eggs-cellent company (pardon the Easter humor there, I promise to not use it again). The Hernandez family was first to arrive; we were glad they made it because my other bro-in-law, Jabier, was not feeling very well and unsure if they would be able to join us all. Alex and Josie also helped get things ready inside Mom's house and in the covered patio; Josie brought some goodies for dessert. The Guzman family arrived later when the BBQ was slightly underway...while Wero helped with the BBQ, Eva and Felicia also kept us company. Betty was there and Billy made an appearance later on, but had other prior commitments so he left early. Rudy, Veronica, Gabby and Gracie were unable to be there, but they were missed. Sara made the Gamboa girls some Easter packages which we hope to deliver to them later this week. Aurora was not fortunate to be able to join us for the day, but she did stop by and visited with everyone for a while before she had to go to work. Nick and Erica showed up as well and they kept the outdoor bunch company until the BBQ was ready; they always make us laugh. The day was not at all windy like most thought and which is usually typical of an Easter gathering so we were all glad for that, but it was a scorcher. Sara, Wero and I ended up with sunburn. We were so happy when the last piece of meat was done so we could all go inside and start eating. Aside from the BBQ - which turned out quite well if I do say so myself - the awesome side dishes which Mom made included...pinto beans, Spanish rice, carne guisada & carne molida w/papas. She surely outdid herself as always and so for her food contributions (what she cooked and all the food which she herself provided) and for the energy and goodwill which it took for her to do all of that while playing hostess, we are all glad and proud of her; grateful more than anything for her and her health which has improved greatly. We are a truly blessed family!!!.

Michelle, Jorge, Dominique, Ayden, Celeste, Mari and Ari also had other commitments, but they made it a point to arrive a little later on after we had already eaten, but we were glad to see them all. Ayden is such a cute little baby boy; a heart-breaker in the making. After they finished eating, they joined us outside in the covered patio then they did the usual Easter egg hunt for the kiddos. Sara also made Easter buckets for their little girls (Mari and Ari) which they enjoyed. The "cascarone tradition" capped off the hunt, but most of us were safe from that dilemma as long as we stayed in the patio.

Overall, it was a nice Easter holiday. Like I already said several times on this post and others, we are truly a blessed family indeed!!!
