BIRTHDAY WISHES: Happy Birthday, Erica!

A sincere birthday wish for my niece
- Erica Dawn -
on this her birthday
Friday, July 23rd, 2010!
(the poem in the card above reads:)
What's in a birthday?
A reminder of how lucky we are that you were born!
Not to get older but to become wiser!
What's in a wish?
A whisper into the great unknown so that all of
life's virtues may come your way!

A prayer to G-d and/or a recital to karma
that nothing but good luck is bestowed upon you
today and going forward.

What's in a birthday wish?
All things as written above with the added love
of all of your friends and family!

WARPED: The Vans Tour That Is: July 3, 2010!

Well the concert at the outdoor venue known as the Superpages.com Center in Dallas took off without a hitch this year. Last year we attended the Vans Warped Tour in the city of San Antonio - the very city which captured my heart as a child (and still has its hands around it). This year Alex paid for our tix (Sara's, hers and moi's) and that was awesome in itself. Thanks, Mija! We had as much fun or more this year mainly because the weather was better - overcast almost the entire day, the set up was way better with more food and drink vendors to pick from and with better conveniences such as restrooms, covered or uncovered places to sit if one wanted to, and the vendors selling memorabilia for all respective rock groups had better set ups. We saw many good groups that day which started at 11 am and, for us, and ran through to about 7 pm. It technically ended at around 11 pm for those who stuck around. Alex’s band finished up their set at that time (7 PM) and with the downpour of rain we had sustained earlier we all agreed to return to the awesome hotel suite that my sis and bro-in-law had rented for us all. Besides stomachs were rumbling and it was more cost effective to leave the venue and go back to have a nice, quiet dinner with Alex’s “Rents”! We each had our own favorite group that day. Alex of course liked “Bring Me the Horizon” (they are an English band hailing from Sheffield. Sara and I ended up liking them as well). Not knowing any of the bands which were scheduled this year unlike last year as we were familiar with some like "Escape the Fate", Sara ended up liking “Automatic Love Letter” (their lead singer was female and she rocked), and I ended up really liking “Emmure” (reminded me of a young “G’n’R”- their sound-that is, as in their song Dry Ice). It was great and I hope we keep it an annual event between us as this year makes two in a row. Plus that in years to follow that we may add others to our trek and odyssey that be...Vans Warped Tour.

“BIG D” GETAWAY: A Much Needed Vacation with the Family!

My sis, Josie, and bro-in-law, Jabier, footed the entire bill for the mini weekend vacation we all shared and which allowed Alex, Sara and me to attend the Warped Tour on Saturday 07-03-10. That was also grand. We began our adventure on Friday afternoon and arrived in Big D later that eve. Jabier drove that entire day (to and from Dallas), and it rained on and off, sometimes a hard downpour. Aside from maybe not being so ideal for those who hate driving in the rain, it did make for good travel conditions as it kept things cool and kept "mr. sun" away. The hotel suite was beautiful and allowed plenty of room for nice, comfy accommodations for all. We all laughed the entire weekend. Not a negative outcome not in the slightest bit for three whole days. That has to be a record among family, doesn't it? Just kidding. We all always travel with no problems; we have all done so quite a bit and quite extensively in the past so this was a breeze. Lots of good food, good fun and good company. Saturday was spent at Vans Warped Tour for Alex, Sara and me and Josie and Jabier spent some time with friends who were in Big D as well that weekend. We returned on Sunday and took our time and made some stops along the way like over in Abilene. It capped off three days of fun, fun, fun! Thanks to my family (Hernandez) for putting up with us and for including Sara and me in their family vacation. It totally rocked.
