Another holiday in 2010: Thanksgiving Day - a huge success!

This Thanksgiving day was indeed a day for giving thanks!
Our family was together. Some were missing. The ones unable to be here with us: my brother, Rudy, and his family (Yoli, Rudy III, Joshua "Joshie", Chris & Jacob). My nephew, Gilbert "Taita", and his family (Christine and Brianna "Lokey"); they reside in the San Francisco area. My niece, Erica, and her hubby, Nick; they were with Nick's family in "Big D". Well wishes to Nick's family, btw. Hoping Hamilton is recovering nicely...blessings to everyone in Dallas. Hamilton (he is with Nick's sis, Ennett)
was injured in an electrical accident while he was on call for his job several weeks ago. He is doing better and is home now. Click on Hamilton's name for Face Book page set up for him.
So most of us were present at Mama's home this turkey day. Everyone brought a dish and everything was yummy. Mama's relleno was as delicious as it always is each year. We all took lots of it home with us. Sara had some for lunch already today. Anything Mama cooks is good. We (her daughters) were blessed with good cooking/baking skills. Hey, another thing to be thankful for, right? Plus we are all "clean freaks"...we go around chasing down empty or half empty glasses or cans, plates, whatever. So if you are ever fortunate to be invited to one of our gatherings, watch your food and beverage if you are not quite finished or they may disappear suddenly into "file # 13". Ha, ha...
Anyway, we celebrated Eva's 49th birthday today as well. She is one of the few 49er fans (fanatics) in the family so my other sis, Josie, indulged her and granted her (Eva) the wish of baking her a 49er theme cake (trying to obtain pic of it - it was awesome). Though most of us are Dallas fans (fanatics and die-hards), we humor the 49er folks. Hee, hee.
Mama looked happy all day long. She loves a houseful of loved ones even if she may say differently to other. J.K. You could tell she was happy, but she (we) missed the ones who were awol this year. We watched the Dallas game and took things in stride as the outcome was not what we were hoping for at all, but still thankful for the banter and each others company.
My fav thing about this year was how all my nieces and nephews hung out together after we ate our holiday feast and celebrated Eva's b-day. They hung out in what we have dubbed "the big room". They were entertained by my nephew Jay's attempts at screamer music (with Alex's electric guitar, amp and microphone stand blaring loud); his dedication of made up songs to several of his family members was funny, but..."We heard you, Jay, pay-back is coming"...lol. It's all good. My siblings, Mama, and I (along with some nieces and nephews who occasionally popped in to see how the game was going) hung out in the living room and laughed. Mama just laughed at all of us and motioned her head to and fro as if to say "chihuahua...". If you are of Latino/Hispanic decent or hang out with some of our kind (lol) you know all about "chihuahua" or "que barbara". At some point or time each of us broke into smaller groups and caught up on family events or current events. It was so nice.
I may be biased in saying so, but I am so very proud of my siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Proud of all my family and all of our individual accomplishments, and group accomplishments (like our "Adopt-a-Hwy" family team, etc...). All of us very different, but the same where it truly counts. All of us intelligent, but also mindful and respectful of others - never letting things make us get too big for our heads, per se. All of us savvy in current events and such, but always keeping things in perspective to not hurt others and how they believe or feel, but always ready to debate with great vigor our stance and plat-form as needed. Watch as I write this someone will do something that will totally obliterate my story. Not really. We have our set-backs and such, but for the most part, we have all done quite well. Plus, if you base success on taking care of family and those in need, we are very successful and wealthy. For all of this I give thanks, and I cannot wait to celebrate all the days leading up to Christmas!!! TTL...

WHAT THANKSGIVING MEANS TO ME: FAMILY, GATHERING OF LOVED ONES AND TRULY JUST BEING THANKFUL.

First let me begin by saying that Thanksgiving means to me exactly what is implied within the term itself; to be thankful. Thankful for the smaller things in life first and foremost because without being thankful for those, how can we dare expect to be thankful for the bigger things in life. Do we not risk missing out on the big picture when we fail to see the smaller one? YES! We fail to recognize the bigger and more important things in life when we fail to notice the smaller, everyday and most obvious things in life. Mostly if we do not work towards the smaller things, we cannot and should not expect the bigger things. Hard work is the lone saving grace and what will garner us the good things in life. Then there is trying, trying will in itself guide us towards our dreams and our goals. Working hard along with trying will truly get us closer or help us arrive. Simply wishing for them will not bring about much, we have to try and work hard, but always we must be thankful for the small things.
I am thankful most of all for my family, my loved ones and for the good health we have been blessed with and for the good fortune of being together on most holidays, special occasions and especially on the day we have dubbed as Thanksgiving Day. Those whom are absent on the very day will be missed indeed but as always they will be thought about and blessed wherever they are and certainly loved.
Thanksgiving, despite this American-holiday having gone too commercial and materialistic these days, still means getting together with loved ones to give thanks. The good food and entertainment which accompanies it and continues to ensue it through-out the day is just icing on the cake. We are just so fortunate to celebrate the holiday knowing we have so much more than thousands around the world who have so little or nothing at all. We are truly lucky and for that, we should be thankful.

This year, I shout out loud - "to heck with the downs and the negatives"; they are just a part of life. They are merely issues that we have to learn to cope with, to make adjustments for, and to make allowances for so that we may move ahead. Being thankful for everything, being thankful for everyone just guarantees a better situation for us. Things may seem ever so bleak one day, but they do get better. It is the difficult days I choose to recognize, but wish to beat and to out-number so that on my better days, I am thankful...I will recognize the better days with more vigor and will not let them slip by without being truly thankful for they are many.

NHS Induction Ceremony: Way to go, Alex!

Congrats to Alex on her good grades. Her GPA is 4.5. She has always made good grades. She was also inducted into the NJHS prior to NHS. Way to go. She is intelligent, and I do not mind saying that she gets it from her Tia D! J.K. She inherited good genes from both sides of the family (Josie's and Jabier's). She also has nice jeans. lol. We are all so very smart! Smart alecky as well, but equally if not more, we are all intelligent. I am so proud of her as well as my other nieces and nephews. I would post more on the others if the others would share their awards and such with me so I could proudly post their accomplishments here. I ask and ask but no one listens to Tia/Aunt Dora. Sadness. Oh, well. This post is for Alex anyway. May she continue to do well in school. For sure she will continue to make us all proud. Congratulations again, mija.
